Chiropractic Questions
During your initial evaluation, you will be asked about your symptoms and medical history. Your chiropractor will then perform a physical examination and may order tests, such as X-rays, if necessary. Based on their findings, your chiropractor will work with you to create a treatment plan tailored to your specific needs and health. Your plan may involve one or more of the following:
- Spinal Manipulation and Adjustment – A chiropractic adjustment is a high velocity, low amplitude thrust that targets the joint. This thrust is meant to increase the mobility of the desired joint. A trained chiropractor goes through an extensive four-year program to refine their adjusting skills. A Chiropractic adjustment is meant to be quick and comfortable.
- Manual Therapies – In addition to spinal manipulation, your chiropractor may also use other manual therapies, including trigger point therapy, myofascial release, and massage. Each of these therapies works to release tension in the muscles, ligaments, and tendons around your spine.
- Rehabilitative Exercise – Your Chiropractor may also prescribe rehabilitative exercises to help you strengthen the muscles around your spine. These exercises can help prevent further injury and relieve pain.
- Lifestyle and Nutritional Counseling – Your Chiropractor may also offer to provide lifestyle and nutritional counselling to help you manage and improve your back pain. They may recommend changes to your diet, exercise routine, and sleep habits. They may also suggest ways you can reduce stress.

Yes, chiropractic care is safe when it’s performed by someone who has been trained and licensed to practice chiropractic care. Chiropractors must first complete a minimum of three years of university study which is then followed by an intensive four-year program at an accredited chiropractic college. Upon graduation, they then receive the title Doctor of Chiropractic.
The side effects of chiropractic care are usually minor, for example, temporary soreness. Complications and/or severe adverse effects from chiropractic treatment are rare. Prior to starting treatment, your chiropractor will review all potential risks with you and obtain your consent to treatment.

Your Visit
When you arrive for your appointment, your chiropractor will review the information on your intake forms and ask additional questions to learn more about your past and current healthcare needs. Your chiropractor will then perform a physical examination and determine if X-rays or additional tests are required. Once your chiropractor is satisfied that they understand the nature of your pain, they will explain your diagnosis and plan a course forward. Your chiropractor will recommend a specific treatment approach that reflects your individual needs.
